Colorado Rapids top United 1-0

Minnesota United came up just short Wednesday night at Allianz Field, falling 1-0 to the Colorado Rapids in a match packed with intensity, physical play, and missed opportunities. The Loons controlled stretches of possession and created several dangerous chances throughout the night, but Colorado capitalized on one of its few clear openings and made the lead stand up through the final whistle. The result snapped Minnesota’s recent unbeaten run and spoiled what was expected to be an emotional home sendoff for James Rodríguez before international duty.

From the opening minutes, the match carried a playoff-like atmosphere. Hard tackles and aggressive defending set the tone almost immediately, with both sides battling for control in midfield. Minnesota began generating pressure midway through the first half as Joaquín Pereyra nearly opened the scoring after forcing a turnover high up the pitch, narrowly missing the far post with a left-footed strike. Moments later, James Rodríguez nearly produced one of the highlights of the season when his long-range attempt smashed off the crossbar.

Colorado eventually found the breakthrough in the 26th minute when Rafael Navarro slipped behind the Minnesota defense and finished calmly past Drake Callender to put the Rapids ahead. Despite the setback, the Loons continued pressing forward and looked increasingly dangerous as the match wore on. Anthony Markanich nearly connected on a James Rodríguez cross inside the six-yard box, while Kelvin Yeboah and Tomás Chancalay combined for another late opportunity that rolled just wide of goal.

Minnesota threw numbers forward during the closing stages, searching desperately for an equalizer in front of the Allianz Field crowd. Paxten Aaronson and Colorado’s back line managed to absorb the pressure, while goalkeeper Nicolas Defreitas-Hansen secured the clean sheet for the visitors. Although the Loons left without points, there were still encouraging moments from Pereyra, Rodríguez, and the attack as Minnesota now turns its focus toward a road matchup with the New England Revolution this weekend.
