The Last Waltz - Alex Rossi and Friends - Fitzgerald Theatre

Alex Rossi and Friends Set the Tone

The 21st Annual Last Waltz Tribute at the Fitzgerald Theater wasted no time getting into its groove, opening with a powerful set from Alex Rossi and Friends. Rooted deeply in blues and soul, the band delivered a rich, full-bodied sound that immediately pulled the audience into the spirit of The Last Waltz.

With Alex Rossi leading on guitar and vocals, the band locked into a tight, infectious rhythm—driven by a grooving bassline, expressive keys, steady drums, and a saxophone that added just the right amount of bite and warmth. The ensemble felt less like an opener and more like the foundation for the entire night.

Adding to the energy, Heatbox made a guest appearance for two songs, bringing a unique rhythmic and vocal dynamic that blended seamlessly into the set while adding a modern edge.

Covering the first ten songs from The Band’s original 1976 farewell concert, Rossi and company didn’t just replicate the material—they honored it while making it feel alive and immediate. It was an incredible start to the evening and set a high bar for everything that followed.
