2026 KPMG Women's PGA Championship | First Round Recap

The 2026 KPMG Women's PGA Championship got underway Thursday at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minnesota, and South Korea's Ina Yoon wasted no time making history. Yoon fired a bogey-free, 9-under 63 to claim the outright lead after round one, matching the all-time 18-hole scoring record at the KPMG Women's PGA and setting a new record for the lowest opening round in tournament history. The performance also stands as the best round of Yoon's LPGA Tour career, and if history holds, it's a promising sign for her chances heading into the weekend. The last solo first-round leader at Hazeltine went on to win the whole thing, Hannah Green back in 2019.

Two shots back at 7-under sits Karis Davidson, who opened with the lowest round of her major championship career. Australia's Davidson carries a made-cut streak of 15 consecutive events into the weekend, third longest on tour, and has been quietly building one of her best seasons on the LPGA. Tied for third at 5-under are A Lim Kim and Alexa Pano, each posting 67s in the opening round. Pano, playing just her second week with new caddie Kyle Alexander, highlighted her round with an eagle and called it one of her most confident starts at a major. There was also a moment of pure magic on the par-3 17th, where Amanda Doherty knocked in a hole-in-one from 161 yards for the first ace of her LPGA Tour career.

With a stacked leaderboard and three rounds still to play, the stage is set for a memorable week at one of Minnesota's most iconic venues. Hazeltine National is less than 30 minutes from downtown Minneapolis and open to fans through Sunday, June 28. Whether you're a die-hard golf fan or just looking for a great reason to get outside this weekend, this is the kind of event worth seeing in person. Come out and watch history get made in your own backyard.
